How to Perform a Proper LCD Test

Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD) are complex panels that can suffer from various defects over time. Using this full-screen color test helps you identify hardware issues that are often invisible during normal use.

1. Checking for Backlight Bleed & Clouding

LCDs use a backlight to illuminate the screen. Sometimes, this light "leaks" from the edges or creates uneven cloudy spots. Use the Black mode and turn off your room lights. If you see bright patches on the edges or center, your panel has backlight bleeding.

2. Color Uniformity Test

A high-quality LCD should display a single color evenly across the entire surface. Use the White or Green modes. Look for any areas that appear yellowish or darker (vignetting). This is crucial for photographers and designers.

3. Stuck vs. Dead Pixels

During your LCD test, cycle through Red, Green, and Blue colors. If you see a tiny black dot, it is a dead pixel (powerless). If you see a bright colored dot that doesn't match the background, it is a stuck pixel.
