How to Properly Check for Dead Pixels

Before you start, we highly recommend cleaning your screen. Dust and smudges can look exactly like dead pixels, leading to false alarms. Use a microfiber cloth to wipe the surface gently.

1. Cycle Through the Colors

A comprehensive test requires checking each primary color. This tool allows you to fill your screen with pure White, Black, Red, Green, and Blue. Each color reveals different types of defects.

2. What to Look For

  • Dead Pixel: A black dot on a white background. This means the pixel is powerless.
  • Stuck Pixel: A bright colored dot (Red, Green, or Blue) on a black background. This means the sub-pixel is permanently "on".
  • Hot Pixel: A permanently white dot on a black background.

3. Found a Defect? Try Fixing It

If you discover a stuck pixel (colored), it might not be permanent. Use our Dead Pixel Fixer tool, which flashes colors rapidly to attempt to unstuck the crystal. However, black "dead" pixels are usually permanent hardware failures.
